We’ve got some exciting news! Jam Factory’s head of metal Christian Hall will be coming to Canberra for a solo exhibition, EXHIBITION NEXT, at Craft ACT, 25 May-15 July 2017.

NEXT is an exhibition of furniture, sculpture and jewellery that “explores the viewpoint as a focus for design”. Christian is interested in both people and objects. In this exhibition he has made works that appear different when viewed from different perspectives, shifting as we move through the space. His works are stark black in colour and take the form of simple shapes and confident lines. These works are designed to unfold as we move around them, revealing new patterns, volumes and geometries as our position shifts. The effect of shifting patterns and geometry generated by moving around the pieces, focuses this body of work on the interaction between object and viewer.

Originally trained in jewellery, his practice crosses art and design disciplines, including jewellery, sculpture, furniture and industrial design.

While in Canberra, Christian Hall will be launching Emerging Contemporaries. Staged alongside NEXT, the annual Emerging Contemporaries exhibition, which is the Craft ACT National Award Exhibition for early career artists, will showcase the diversity of contemporary practice from dynamic emerging talent through to one of the most established and recognised practitioners in Australia.

Christian Hall is available for interviews. For all media enquiries contact Emily Casey, curator Craft ACT 62629333 curator@craftact.org.au.
