Olivia Gates is a graduate of the Australian National University School of Art and Design based in Kiama, NSW. Gates’s work often draws on the natural landscape that surrounds her coastal home on Dharawal Country. She explores notions of ancestry, generational knowledge imbedded within a shared memory of place, environmental conservation and how these influence the artists’ sense of belonging. Working with a range of materials such as glass and textiles, Gates explores her themes through feminine perspectives, as symbols of creation, abundance, and to be nurturing and heterotelic in nature, permeate as patterns, movements and textures within her work.
