Melanie Olde is an experienced weaver of complex cloth and colourful designs. She strives for technical integrity and innovative thought in woven cloth, reflecting on the past while stretching the potential of her medium for the future.

Melanie's professional weaving experience has been in business, research, teaching and exhibiting nationally and internationally, with her work continually driven by curiosity and new learning. She independently researches cellular structures for form, function and array in order to interpret these in biomimetic, complex woven cloth. The ease of thinking of cloth in 3-dimensions combined with Melanie's proven high level of knowledge in woven structure, ensures her research leads to innovative exploration and design.

Olde works on an AVL 24 shaft CompuDobby Loom in her Canberra based studio, and was able to experiment with mechanical and computerised jacquard systems at Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio in Florence, Italy in 1996 and 2012.
