Craft + Design Canberra Call Outs

Craft + Design Canberra is a not-for-profit membership-based organisation supporting artists, craft practitioners, designers, and makers at every stage of their careers. We promote and celebrate excellence and innovation in contemporary craft in everything we do – in our retail space, exhibitions, membership program, events and Biennial Craft + Design Festival.

2024 OPEN STUDIOS PROGRAM | 9 + 10 NOVEMBER 2024 | CALL OUT OPEN

Our long-standing Open Studios Program returns for another year! As part of the Craft + Design Canberra Festival, craft artists, designers and arts organisations across the region will open their creative spaces to share insights into their practice and processes.

The Open Studios program will take place in Canberra, Queanbeyan, and surrounding regions, Ngunnawal, Ngambri, Ngarigu and Walbunja Country and is supported by home.byholly.

Would you like to open your studio space to the public? Then this is a great opportunity to showcase your work, engage with curious audiences, and be part of the Craft + Design Canberra community for an exciting weekend filled with creative practice! We are encouraging artists to open their studios for both Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November to maximise the success of the program.

Applications are open now until 31 May 2024.

2025 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM | CALL OUT OPEN

Craft + Design Canberra, ACT Parks & Conservation Service, and our research partner National Zoo & Aquarium (NZA) are pleased to present our acclaimed Artist-in-Residence program once again for contemporary craft practitioners and designers.

For 18 years, this residency has been a unique opportunity to research nationally significant collections, spend time in the magnificent Namadgi National Park, and prepare new work for an exhibition at the Craft + Design Canberra Gallery the following year.

Successful artists for the 2025 Artist-in-Residence program will undertake a two-week research period at the National Zoo & Aquarium, exploring the Bushland Aviary on a guided tour, connecting with staff to discover more about NZA’s conservation mission and values, and going behind the scenes with a Zookeeper.

They will then spend three weeks at Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage, surrounded by the natural beauty of Namadgi National Park.

Since 2006, artists have found, time and again, that their practice is profoundly altered by the experience of this residency, which allows precious stillness and space for investigation, reflection, and generation of new work.

Applications are open now until 14 June 2024.
