About the Maker: Wayne Simon is a proud indigenous contemporary artist, whose heritage originates in Biripi country in Mid North Coast New South Wales. He draws on his love of art, dancing, music and graffiti to produce outstandingly beautiful jewellery that incorporates pearls, silver and gold, kangaroo leather, echidna quill and feathers.
His work at Craft Act includes dreamtime rainbow serpent bangles that use blackened and polished silver and coloured kangaroo leather braiding to produce uniquely Australian statement pieces. He draws on Australian fruit for his yellow gold Quandong pendant and the Australian coastline for his red garnet barnacle earrings. Wayne’s jewellery is truly Australian.
Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre acknowledges the Ngunnawal people as the traditional custodians of the ACT and surrounding areas. We honour and respect their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this country and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region. We aim to respect cultural heritage, customs and beliefs of all Indigenous people.
