Craft + Design transforms the world

The last few years of challenges including the pandemic and mass climate change events like the devastating bushfires and floods have been an unprecedented time of difficulty for artisans, designers and craftspersons everywhere; as well as our community.

Through this Craft ACT continues to champion a secure future for a valued, creative and essential community of contemporary craftspeople designers and audiences; and empower the creative community to make a valuable contribution to transforming our world!

In our continuing response to these major and prolonged events, Craft ACT has embraced creative collaboration and digital innovation to build resilience and sustain our community. Online retail and gallery sales, as well as audience engagement, have reached record levels: in 2021 our team utilised digital delivery with our online shops, workshops and videos; commissioned content, engaged with new audiences; and contributed to improving the health and wellbeing of our community.

But we still need your help.

In a time where it feels like we have so much stacked against us, we should not underestimate the value of imagination, design thinking and the importance of supporting the creative community has never been greater.

As we enter a new fiscal year Craft ACT is reaching out to its committed member and supporter base to raise an additional $20,000 to directly support its member artists, programs and exhibitions and connected them to our audiences, thereby contributing to positive outcomes in the wider community.

"In the recent challenging years, it is more important than ever to recognise the intrinsic value the arts have on the health of our community. Artists, craftspeople, and designers make work that reflects our society and our humanity - telling our stories, connecting with our audiences and strengthening our sense of community, belonging, place and wellbeing. Furthermore, by utilising design thinking artists, craftspeople, and designers; also have the capacity to generate innovative solutions to the big problems of our time.

Craft ACT firmly places Canberra as a global city of design and a creative capital, expanding audiences and driving economic growth through the arts. As an industry the arts contributes $4.2 billion to Australia’s GDP, yet remains critically underfunded compared to other industries bringing in similar revenue. Your generous donation supports the careers of artists, designers and some of Australia's finest creatives which directly translates to positive social and economic outcomes for our community, our city, and our country. Thank you so much for your continued support of Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre."

Your investment contributes additional funds to support the next generation of contemporary craftspeople and designers through professional development and collaborations.

Major professional development and marketing programs ($5000 donation):

This is a special opportunity to support a targeted professional development program and an annual exhibition which will encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration in which selected craft practitioners will collaborate with other design disciplines.
