Carlos Alberto Montana-Hoyos (PhD) was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He graduated as an Industrial Designer from Javeriana University (Colombia), and later cum laude from an MAID and a PhD from Kobe Design University, both with Japanese Government Scholarships. As a designer, Carlos has developed award-winning design projects related to concept, crafts, products, graphics, exhibition and space, while living in Colombia, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Australia. His transdisciplinary practice ranges from traditional and contemporary crafts to the design of products, services and user experiences. He often collaborates with other designers, makers and creatives. He is currently an Associate Professor of Industrial Design in the Faculty of Arts and Design, University of Canberra, and his research interests are on transdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches to design, including topics as Biomimicry, Design for Sustainability, and Design for Health and Sports.
