Having been introduced to clay during her painting classes at Australian National University School of Art McIntyre commenced part time studies in ceramics in 1969 - 70 with Hiroe Swen as her first hand-building teacher. In 1974 she became a full time student and at the completion of her studies she became, and has continued to be, a part time staff member of the ANU School of Art.

McIntyre’s work is included in numerous national and international collections including: Canberra Museum and Gallery; Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory; the Renwick Alliance Collections Group USA; and many private collections in Australia and overseas. She has been the recipient of a number of awards including the prestigious Canberra Critics Award for Visual Arts, the Calleen Acquisition Award (Cowra NSW), and the Gold Coast International Acquisition Award.

McIntyre is a dynamic artist who contributes to the local art and the broader community through volunteer work for organisations such as Strathnairn Arts Association (past President), and Craft ACT: Craft Design Centre.
