Meet the maker: Oat Studio

Sarah Annand is the artist behind the unique Canberran designs by OAT Studio.

Having worked in the textiles industry for over a decade, Annand has developed a passion for producing Australian designed and made textiles for the home. All textile materials used in Annand’s printing are of known origin, having been acquired locally from Australia or New Zealand.

Annand is a local artist, the deep and enduring connection she has with the built environment around her give her practice a strong connection with the Canberran community. Since moving to Canberra, she has been deeply drawn to the Brutalist and Modernist structures that hold up the city. Annand contrasts the gentle materiality of the natural base cloths in her work with the strong and masculine architectural motifs that are printed onto them.

Her love for architecture and design is also expressed through the photographic studies she has done of sites around the city. Annand’s photographic practice has a reciprocal relationship with her printmaking, as they inform the patterns in her textile works.

The thoughtful combination of shapes and colours found in OAT Studio’s linens will add a light touch of cosiness to any lounge space.
